KeepSync: Sync Google Keep to Apple Reminders
NEW: v1.2 detects duplicates, giving you the choice whether import them again or now
Own a Google Home or Nest Speaker, but want to use Apple Reminders for your shopping list?
With this Siri Shortcut, you can sync your Google Keep shopping list to Apple Reminders, including smart aisle categorisation!
Why?
If you're like me, you have Apple devices, and want to use the built-in Apple Reminders app as a shopping list. But, when you add things using Google Assistant's "Hey Google, add carrots to my shopping list" function, you end up with your shopping list split between Google Keep and Apple Reminders.
This shortcut aims to change all of that, unifying your shopping list under the Reminders app.
Setup:
- Make sure you have a "Shopping" list in Apple Reminders, using the "Add List" button at the bottom right of the Reminders app, and call it "Shopping." Set the list type to "Shopping" too, to make added items automatically sort into supermarket aisles like "Dairy" and "Groceries."
- Install the shortcut app on your phone by downloading the KeepSync.Shortcut file and opening it.
- Make sure your Google Keep shopping list has tick boxes turned on. To do so, open your Google Keep shopping list in the Google Keep app, click the 3 dots at the top right, and if tick boxes aren't enabled, click "Show tick boxes"
To Sync:
Please note: In the current version of KeepSync, your Keep note MUST use tick boxes. See above for how to enable them.
- Open the Google Keep app on your device.
- Click the 3 dots at the bottom right, and hit Send
- Select KeepSync from the Share Sheet. You may be asked for permissions to modify your Reminders - select Allow Always.
- Done! A notification tells you how many items were added
FAQ:
- Q: Does this change my Google Keep shopping list?
A: No, no changes are made to your Keep list, as this is not currently possible. Feel free to tick off the items in your Keep list - Q: Why doesn't KeepSync show up in the Send option
A: "Show in Share Sheet" needs to be enabled for the shortcut. This is usually enabled by default, but to fix this open the Shortcuts app, long-press the KeepSync shortcut, and select Details. Choose the "Details" tab, then make sure "Show in Share Sheet" is turned on. - Q: Can't you already copy Google Keep to Reminders using the Send page?
A: Whilst you can add a whole Keep note as a reminder using this option, you can't add each individual item from a list as a different reminder by default, which is why this Shortcut was created - Q: Can I use this on desktop?
A: Google Keep does not support sharing on desktop, so this is limited to iOS and iPadOS for now
